The implementation of behavior analysis

Posted on December 4th, 2013

The implementation of behavior analysis to special instruction has become widely recognized as an effective treatment for students with a variety of learning abilities including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder.  The methodologies employed by therapists and behavior analysts are not limited to discrete trial training, but also include natural environment teaching, direct instruction, social skills, verbal behavior, and behavior modification/interventions.  At ABS Behavioral Services we use the principles of applied behavior analysis to teach each student as an individual. Our teaching procedures are typically described as errorless. Prompts are included to give the student success and then faded systematically usually within session. Educational and behavior programs are scripted using short- term objectives, based on individualized assessment.  We deliver instruction by interspersing known and acquisition trials in contrived and natural environments in one on one and small group settings. How instruction is run is determined by the student’s abilities and needs.  All instruction is data based.  Teaching practices are modified based on student performance as observed and graphed by an instructor. ABS Behavioral Services uses a correction procedure in the form of vocal, gestural, or physical corrections for incorrect responses instead of an informational “no” or “no-no” prompt.
